THE FANG: A DARK BLOG BY THE GOTH LIST

Welcome to The Fang. This is the official blog for The Goth List, the place to hear the "stream of consciousness." This is also the place to get updates across our entire network of sites.

godzilla vs. the thing

Finally posted the review for Godzilla Vs. The Thing / Mothra Vs. Godzilla. I'll be posting a quick comparison of the fullscreen versions of the film. There's also a review for the Region 0 import of Flash Gordon. Back to reviewing horror films.....

Anyone out there looking forward to the remake of John Carpenter's Halloween? I'm not - remakes are quickly becoming the norm. Not that remakes can't be done well, but it seems that many horror movies that have come out in the past few years are nothing more than something that has already been done before with art direction much like a Tool video. I'm sure that Halloween will do well in the theaters and on home video/DVD, but I just can't get excited about another remake. However, if you think that there have been many remakes over the past few years, get ready for the swarm of remakes to come.....including remakes of several Herschell Gordon Lewis (The "Godfather of Gore") films, Dario Argento films (quite possibly one of the most renowned Italian directors in the past 50 years) and the cycle of slasher films that flourished throughout the 70s and 80s. As long as the tickets sell, the remakes will be cranked out of the mill.....and made to look like a music video.

Just got done with a marathon viewing of five different versions of 1964's Godzilla Vs. Mothra (aka Godzilla Vs. The Thing aka Mothra Vs. Godzilla) for my exhaustive upcoming review. I'm in the middle of acquiring comparative screentshots, and have started writing the review. To make a fair comparison, I'll be breaking it up into two reviews - comparing widescreen releases against each other and comparing fullscreen versions separately. Please be patient.....

In the meantime, here's a piece of gothic wisdom for you.....

I've retreated to my hole, beneath the lid of my casket. The threat of the sun is lurking, the sky is now turning bluer and bluer. My only hope is to stay here until it ends. But I need to feed. I need to live my undying death until twilight. Retreating to the crypt, I snatch a rat passing by from life's grasp, and wait.....until then, the dusty corpses of my dark ancestors will keep me company, amongst the cobwebs, the flicker of a torch and the lonliness.....
